The Aadhaar system delivers single-source offline/online identity validation across the country for the residents. Once residents enrol, they can use their Aadhaar number to show and verify their identity multiple times using electronic means or through offline confirmation, as the case may be.

How to link aadhaar and PAN Card

Step One

Visit the income tax website

Click the menu Link Aadhaar

Information: As per the CBDT circular every person who has been allotted a PAN as on 1st July 2017 and is eligible to obtain an Aadhaar number is required to link PAN with AADHAAR on or before 31st March 2022. Taxpayers who failed to do so are liable to pay a fee of Rs. 500 till 30th June 2022 and thereafter a fee of Rs. 1000 will be applicable before submission of the PAN-AADHAAR linkage request.

  • Please pay the application fee of Rs. 1000 through the e-Pay Tax service to proceed with the submission of the Aadhaar-PAN linking request. Click here for payment-related information
  • In case payment is already done on the Protean (NSDL) portal, please try linking after 4-5 working days from the date of payment.
  • Please make sure fee payment is done under Minor head 500 – Other Receipts(500) and Major head 0021 [Income Tax (Other than Companies)] in a single challan.

Note

The following categories are exempted from Aadhaar-PAN linking

(i) NRIs

(ii) Not a citizen of India

(iii) age > 80 years as of the date

(iv) state of residence is ASSAM, MEGHALAYA or JAMMU & KASHMIR

Link Aadhaar User Guide

1. Overview

The Link Aadhaar service is available to individual taxpayers (both registered and unregistered on e-Filing) who have a valid PAN and Aadhaar number. With this service, you can:

Link Aadhaar with PAN on the e-Filing portal:

Pre-login on the e-Filing homepage (for both registered and unregistered users)

Post-login to the e-Filing portal (for registered users)

View your Link Aadhaar status from the e-Filing homepage

CBDT has extended the deadline for linking of Aadhaar with the PAN from 31st March 2022 to 31st March 2023. You can link the Aadhar with the PAN till 31st March 2023. You will be required to pay a fee of Rs. 500 till 30th June 2022 and a fee of Rs 1000 from 1st July 2022.

2. Prerequisites for availing of this service

Valid PAN

Aadhaar number

Valid mobile number

To the link Aadhar with the PAN two main steps are:

Step 1 Payment of application fee on NSDL (now Protean) portal under Major head (0021) and Minor head (500) for AY 2023-24.

Step 2 Submit the Aadhaar link request on the e-Filing portal after 4-5 working days of making of payment on the NSDL (now Protean) portal.

3. Step-by-Step Guide

Step:1 Payment of fee on NSDL (now Protean) portal under major head (0021) and newly added minor head (500) for AY 2023-24

Step:1(a) Go to the e-Payment for TIN (http://egov-nsdl.com) to pay the late fee of Rs. 1000 as the case may be

Step:1(b) Click on the Proceed button in non-TDS/TCS category Challan no./ITNS 280.

Step:1(c) On click of Proceed button challan will be shown which will have major (0021) and minor head (500).

Step 1 (d): Enter the required details (PAN, AY, mode of payment etc).

Note:

If the amount is less than or greater than the specified amount (Rs. 1000 basis date of fee payment), the amount shall be considered invalid for purpose of Aadhaar-PAN linkage.

Only a single challan of fee amount Rs. 500 till 30th June 2022 and Rs. 1000 after 30th Jun 2022 with Minor head code 500 will be considered as a valid fee for Aadhaar-PAN linkage and multiple challans with major head (0021), minor head (500) and AY 2023-24 aggregating to Rs. 500 (up to 30.06.2022) or Rs. 1000 (from 01.07.2022 onwards till 31.03.2023) will NOT be considered as valid fee payment.

There should not be any aggregation of challans with PAN-Minor head 500 to arrive at Rs.1000.

The challan for fee payment should be with the AY 2023-24 only.

Step 2 Submit the PAN-Aadhaar link request on the e-Filing portal after 4-5 working days of making fee payment on the NSDL (now Protean) portal.

(As of now, no validity period will be there for linking Aadhar post fee payment on NSDL (now Protean) portal.)

Step 2(a): Go to e-filing portal > Login > On Dashboard, under the Link Aadhaar to PAN option, click Link Aadhaar.

Alternatively, click Link Aadhar in the personal details section.

Step 2(b) Enter the PAN and Aadhaar no. and click Validate

Note: Please ensure you link your correct Aadhaar no. with your PAN.

If Aadhaar and PAN are already linked or PAN is linked to some other Aadhaar or vice versa, you will get the following errors:

PAN is already linked with the Aadhar or with some other Aadhar.

You may need to lodge a grievance or contact the e-Filing Helpdesk to un-link your Aadhaar and PAN if: Your PAN is linked with some other Aadhaar

After validating PAN and Aadhar

Scenario-1

If you have made payment of challan on NSDL (now Protean) Portal and payments details are verified by e-filing.

Step-(i) After validating PAN and Aadhar, you will see a pop-up message “Your payments details are verified”. Click Continue on the pop-up message to submit the Aadhaar link request.

Step-(ii) Enter the required details and click the Link Aadhaar button.

Step-(iii) Enter the 6-digit OTP received on mobile no. mentioned in the previous step.

Step-(iv) Request for the link of Aadhaar has been submitted successfully, now you can check the Aadhaar-PAN link status.

Scenario-2

If the payment details are not verified on the e-filing portal.

Step:(i) After validating your PAN and Aadhaar, you will see a pop-up message “Payments details not found”. Click Continue to pay on the NSDL (now Protean) Portal for the payment of the fee as payment of the fee is the pre-requisite to submit the PAN-Aadhaar link request.

Note: If you have already paid the fee on NSDL (now Protean) portal, wait for 4-5 working days after that you can submit the request.

Scenario-3

In case the record for PAN and minor head code, 500 is there, but challan is already consumed for linking.

Step:(i) After validating your PAN and Aadhaar, you will see a pop-up message “Payment done earlier for this PAN has already been used for Aadhaar -PAN linking”.

Click Continue to make the payment of the fee on the NSDL (now Protean) portal.

Note: If you have raised an Aadhar-PAN linkage request earlier, kindly make the fee payment again on NSDL(now Protean) and submit an Aadhaar-PAN linking request 4-5 working days after the payment.

View Link Aadhaar Status (Pre-Login)

Step 1: On the e-Filing portal homepage, click Link Aadhaar Status.

Step 2: Enter your PAN and Aadhaar Number, and click View Link Aadhaar Status.

On successful validation, a message will display your Link Aadhaar status.

View Link Aadhaar Status (Post-Login)

Step 1a: On your Dashboard. Click Link Aadhaar Status.

Step 1b: Alternatively, you can go to My Profile > Link Aadhaar Status.

Note:

If the validation fails, click Link Aadhaar on the Status page, and you will need to repeat the steps to link your PAN and Aadhaar.

If your request to link your PAN and Aadhaar is pending with UIDAI for validation, you will need to check the status later.

You may need to lodge a grievance or contact the e-Filing Helpdesk to un-link Aadhaar and PAN if:

your Aadhaar is linked with some other PAN

your PAN is linked with some other Aadhaar

On successful validation, a message will display your Link Aadhaar status.

Pan aadhaar link Payment-related information

The fee payment for PAN-Aadhaar Linkage needs to be made through the e-Pay Tax functionality available on the e-filing Portal.

If you have Axis Bank, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Federal Bank, ICICI Bank, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Karur Vysya Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank accounts, please follow the below steps:

  1. Provide your PAN, Confirm PAN and Mobile number to receive OTP
  2. Post OTP verification, you will be redirected to a page showing different payment tiles
  3. Click Proceed on the Income Tax tile
  4. Select AY and Type of Payment – as other Receipts (500) and Continue
  5. Enter the amount as Rs. 1000 under the ‘Others’ field in tax break-up and proceed with further steps

If you have another bank account (the bank is not listed for payment through e-Pay tax), please follow the below steps

  1. Click on the hyperlink ‘Click here to go to NSDL (Protean) tax payment page for other banks’ given below on the e-Pay tax page to redirect to Protean (NSDL) portal
  2. Click Proceed under Challan No./ITNS 280
  3. Select (0021) Income Tax (Other than Companies) under Tax Applicable (Major Head)
  4. Select (500) Other Receipts) under Type of Payment (Minor Head)
  5. Provide other mandatory details and Proceed

When I applied online and changed my PAN card on 08-11-2022, I still didn’t get the change

Hi! We apply for corrections or changes application it will take more time than usual. For insistence, We want to change our name, father’s name or DOB on our PAN card.

We need to attach the relevant document while sending the application. After verification of AO approval, the PAN Data will be corrected.

Post step Your e-PAN will be sent it your email in case you have given the email id in the application. If you have not updated the email after a specific time Pan card will be dispatched to a given address.

They may hold the application in case they have not provided enough documents.

Only in the middle is a single letter allowed. In the first name and surname min, 3 characters should be a file which is mandatory to process the pan card application.
The way you are writing your surname, first name, and middle name will appear in a database.
So, please fill out the form carefully
What is the issue one faces if one enters the name wrongly?
Linking PAN and aadhaar will become a trouble. In case you are applying for a new pan card then need not worry it won’t be processed without Aadhaar
You may have issues at the time of withdrawal of PF.
At the time of processing income tax refunds, if there is a name mismatch, then the income tax department may hold the refund money.
One may face the issue while opening a bank account, demand account etc.

How to fill Correction/ Changes Pan card form

What things are corrected in this form?

1. If you have a correction in the applicant’s name tick box, update it. Need to provide aadhaar as a mandatory document with the correct name in case of any name mismatch in aadhaar should update the aadhaar data first then have to apply for correction or changes pan

2 Tick box for Father name correction, should provide, the applicant’s driving licence, voter ID, Passport, Birth certificate or school certificate which has the correct father’s name should provide as a supporting document to update the father’s name

3 Date of birth correction you must give an aadhaar Copy without an aadhaar one can not correct the Date of birth in PAN Card ITD Data

4. Address change, Mobile number and email ID, and signature by giving filling application and doing it

5. Photograph mismatch is there then needs to give the updated latest photo with a plain background passport-size photo

6. Are you facing a dual pan card issue then better if you can surrender by visiting the income tax office.

7. In case you lost or damaged it then you can fill out this form and get the new updated one with the QR code option.

8. In case you lost your PAN Card you don’t remember the pan number not able to get the same. Please visit the income tax office personally and get the same.

9. We can not do all these corrections at the same time, that is name, father’s name, and DOB. First, you have to correct one of the two, and then you need to make one more application to correct the other one. Out of these two, only 2 corrections are needed then no restrictions

10. All Corrections of data are subject to Income tax department approval. With our official confirmation of enough data evidence, you can not correct the Income tax database.

11. In case you have applied for a PAN Card and need to know the status of your Pan Then you can track here if you applied in UTI Pan Status For NSDL Status

12. Pan application no else was processed Other than NSDL and UTIITSL. They are the two agencies authorised by the Income tax department
